James J. Slone graduated with distinction from Purdue University, with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Criminal Justice. He studied abroad at the University of Marjons, in Plymouth, England, where he played on the varsity basketball team. He graduated from Santa Clara University School of Law with a J.D., and won first place in the American Bar Association Negotiation Competition. He became a member of the California State Bar in 1990.

He was with Gassett, Perry & Frank, an insurance defense litigation law firm, from 1990-1994. Mr. Slone then joined the Allstate Insurance Company Staff Counsel, from 1994-2002, where he was promoted to Lead Counsel, managing the entire Allstate San Jose Legal office. The majority of his practice with Allstate was special investigation unit litigation cases. From 2002-2005, he was with the California State Automobile Association (CSAA) Staff Counsel. Mr. Slone has been with the McDowell firm since 2005.

Mr. Slone has 19 years experience as an insurance defense litigation attorney in the personal injury arena. He has personally tried 17 jury trials to verdict, winning 15 of them. He has won jury trials in Santa Clara County, Alameda County, San Francisco County and Contra Costa County. He has successfully handled hundreds of arbitrations and mediations.

Mr. Slone has lectured at several seminars on the topic of recent developments in special investigation unit cases. He is a member of the State Bar of California, the Contra Costa County Bar Association and the Northern California Fraud Investigators Association.

He has volunteered his time to serve as a Judge in the High School Moot Court Competition, and as a youth basketball coach in the San Ramon Valley YMCA, and as a youth baseball coach in the Danville Little League.
