Nina L. Hawkinson

Nina L. HawkinsonNina L. Hawkinson is an associate with McDowell Shaw & Garcia, providing effective client representation in insurance defense litigation, including personal injury, products liability, professional liability, construction defects and business/commercial litigation. Currently, Ms. Hawkinson's practice is focused on investigating suspect losses for major insurance carriers throughout the country, as well as construction litigation.

Prior to joining MSG, Ms. Hawkinson was a Plaintiff's attorney who represented individuals and public interest groups in matters involving land use, environmental and natural resources law, tenant protection (generally involving enforcement of tenants’ housing rights), government disclosure acts and consumer law. She also has experience in FOIA matters, matters involving a variety of state, local and federal land use laws, Civil Rights Violations, Landlord-Tenant Claims, Construction Law, Insurance Law, Employment Law, Bankruptcy, Business and Real Estate Litigation, Catastrophic Personal Injury, Products Liability, and Wrongful Death.

Ms. Hawkinson has been practicing for over six years and, as such, has extensive experience in litigating matters both in and out of the courtroom. She has successfully negotiated numerous early termination agreements between landlords and tenants and has jury trial experience.

Prior to moving to California, Ms. Hawkinson worked as an assistant Project Manager for one of the largest general contractors in Manhattan that specializes in corporate build outs of office space. The hands-on experience gained transitioned into an interest in construction defect litigation, and provides her with a unique insight into project development versus risk management and the challenges presented at the close of a job.

Ms. Hawkinson received her BA in English, with a focus on creative writing and diversity studies, from University of Vermont in 2003 and her JD from University of La Verne, College of Law, in 2009. She is admitted to the Southern District of California. Ms. Hawkinson is a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles, American Bar Association, and Association of southern California Defense Counsel.
